This came from an earlier review. It is useful background, not a current Idea.
Costco runs about 900 warehouse stores that only let you shop if you pay a yearly membership fee. That fee — $65 or $130 a year in the US — is where almost all the profit comes from. The stores sell groceries and household goods at tiny markups on purpose, because cheap prices are what keeps members renewing (92 out of every 100 members renew each year). Last quarter it did $69 billion in sales in three months and earned $2.2 billion, or $4.93 per share. It has no debt problem and plenty of cash. The one thing that has to keep going right: members have to keep renewing at that 90%+ rate. The one thing that could go wrong: the stock is expensive — you pay about $48 today for every $1 the company earns in a year — so even a small slowdown could knock the price down 20-30% without anything really breaking in the business.

The moving averages are simple averages over exactly 20, 50, and 200 daily trading sessions. RSI uses Wilder's 14-session smoothing; a flat series is neutral at 50. MACD uses 12- and 26-session exponential averages with a 9-session signal. A window is never shortened when history is missing. Every comparison uses the final dated daily close—not an intraday quote—so all figures share one observation boundary. A candle dated to an active delayed-quote session is excluded because it may still be changing. These are trend and momentum references, not a Buy/Sell score.
We keep the original wording so readers can check the record. Any figures below belong to that older review and are not current guidance.
High-quality compounder with a real moat, trading at a full price. The business deserves a premium; the current premium leaves little cushion. Own it, don't chase it.
A conditional model using SEC filings and a delayed-market quote from Yahoo Finance for the Sep 11, 2026 session. It is not a market forecast or analyst consensus.
The required growth rate cannot be established from compatible current inputs.
A high number means the company must grow quickly to justify today's price. A low number gives the business more room to disappoint.
Watch sales growth and operating profit. If either changes, this required-growth number can change too.
— what the price assumes could not be computed: revenue or operating income is not established in the SEC data.
The last deep review estimated 7–11% yearly growth. That is useful history, but there is no current Idea, so we do not compare it with today's price. review saved Aug 13, 2026 · check date unavailable.

Every figure comes from an SEC filing and carries the day it was measured. Nothing here is estimated.
A year-over-year share-count conclusion is not established: could not be checked just now.
Without two comparable filed counts, the app cannot say whether existing owners gained or lost percentage ownership.
Watch for two comparable filing cover pages before interpreting dilution or ownership-slice change.
Total share count — not known yet
could not be checked just now
The request for this filer's cover-page share count did not reach the SEC — a rate limit, a server error, or a dropped connection on our side. That is a failure of ours and carries no information about the company: it is NOT evidence that the filer does not report the figure. The number is withheld rather than guessed, and returns on the next successful load.
No bar is drawn: with no total share count there is nothing to draw a proportion of.
could not be checked just now
Each quarter is named by the fiscal quarter the company itself reported — the label its release used and its consensus estimate was quoted against — and by the month that quarter ended, taken from the filer's own XBRL period boundaries. A fiscal year need not follow the calendar, so Apple's Q2 runs January to March; naming the quarter end keeps that true in both calendars, and no quarter number is ever inferred from a date. Quarterly financials beside this card names the same quarter the same way. TickerYou takes the figures from the release and its filing; every word, sign and percentage is calculated by the app from those stored numbers. A post-release reaction appears only with the stored first-close measurement stamp; otherwise the card says the window is not established and computes no divergence. EPS here is on the basis consensus quotes — adjusted for most US names — so it can legitimately differ from the GAAP figure in Quarterly financials. Rows marked [backfilled] were confirmed from archived coverage after the fact — a lower evidence tier than live capture, and labelled so.
Q3 FY2026 · May 2026: EPS beat the stored consensus estimate, while revenue beat the stored consensus estimate. No post-release price reaction is asserted because its stamped measurement window is not established.
A surprise shows how the release differed from expectations, not whether the business is good or the thesis is right. The price reaction shows repricing, not its cause.
Watch whether the next comparable release confirms the result; one beat or market move does not establish a durable trend.

[backfilled] Costco delivered 11.6% net-sales growth to $69.15B with comparable sales up 9.8%, digitally-enabled sales surging 21.5%, and membership fee income up 10.7% to $1.37B; total revenue of $70.53B cleared consensus on broad-based strength in e-commerce and gas volumes with no change to membership-fee policy.
Quarter ended Feb 15, 2026 · Reported Mar 5, 2026 · stock move after results · not shown
[backfilled] Beat on both lines — GAAP diluted EPS $4.58 vs $4.55 consensus; total revenues $69.6B cleared $69.1B expectations; comparable sales +7.4%, membership fee income +13.6% (partially boosted by the Sept 2024 fee hike); CEO pledged tariff-cost refunds to members; stock fell ~2% after hours on valuation concerns despite the clean top-and-bottom beat.
Quarter ended Nov 23, 2025 · Reported Dec 11, 2025 · stock move after results · not shown
[backfilled] Costco's fiscal Q1 showed 6.4% comparable sales growth and 20.5% digital gains, with membership fee income up 14% on the recent fee increase; net income reached $2.0B as margins held firm, delivering a clear EPS beat while revenue came in fractionally ahead of consensus.
Quarter ended Aug 31, 2025 · Reported Sep 25, 2025 · stock move after results · not shown
[backfilled] Costco's 16-week fiscal Q4 (ending August 31, 2025) showed 5.7% comparable-store sales growth and e-commerce comps of 13.6%, with membership fee income rising 14% to $1.72B; EPS cleared the Zacks consensus while total revenue landed essentially flat to estimates, and no formal forward guidance was issued.
Quarter ended May 11, 2025 · Reported May 29, 2025 · stock move after results · not shown
Computed from SEC filings — never model output. Each quarter is named by the fiscal quarter the company itself reported and the month that quarter ended, through the same resolver the Earnings card beside this one uses; where no release established a fiscal label, the quarter is named by its end alone rather than by a quarter number guessed from the date. EPS is GAAP diluted, as filed, so it can legitimately differ from the adjusted figure in the Earnings card (consensus is quoted adjusted). Y/Y compares the same fiscal quarter a year earlier; a comparison that cannot be made honestly is an em-dash that says why.
Q3 FY2026 · May 2026: Revenue grew 11.6% year over year; net income grew 15.2% year over year; and net profit margin was 3.1%, up 0.10 percentage points.
Comparing the same fiscal quarter a year earlier controls for seasonality. Revenue direction and margin direction together show whether sales are translating into profit, but one quarter is evidence—not a complete thesis.
Watch whether the next comparable quarter confirms both the sales direction and the margin direction.

[backfilled] Costco posted modest beats on both lines with net sales up 8% YoY to $61.97B and e-commerce comps up ~16%; management flagged tariff-driven supply-chain adjustments and selective price increases, describing hikes as a 'last resort', while membership fee revenue grew to $1.24B.

Checked Costco Medicare partnership announcement for fundamental relevance
Fundamental, but modest near term: it extends Costco's member-value ecosystem into Medicare-related products without Costco becoming the underwriter. The pilot could add service revenue and member stickiness if approved and scaled.
source ↗New versus the prior sweep: Costco's Medicare pilot adds a small optionality layer to the membership ecosystem. Core 3m setup remains the Sept. 24 Q4 print; quality is strong, valuation still leaves little error margin.

Published Aug 19, 2026 · 2 recorded assessments
No SEC filings in the trailing month (last 8-K was July 8); the only fundamental data point is strong July sales (+10.7%), consistent with the durable compounder thesis. Quality is not in question — valuation/entry is the only debate ahead of the Sept 24 Q4 report.
Double-digit reported sales growth (48-week net sales +10.1% to $273.55B) confirms membership-driven traffic and demand momentum going into the Q4 print — a direct read on earnings power.
source ↗Costco is executing at high velocity — 10.7% July sales growth and 10.1% YTD are exceptional for a mature warehouse retailer. FY2026 closes around August 30 and September 24 earnings should confirm a strong year. Membership model durability and consistent comp execution remain core structural advantages worth paying up for.
